Georgia: CTAE Resource Network

Compared to other states, Georgia’s professional development system is unique. Local education agencies can set aside five percent of their Perkins allotment to feed into a statewide professional learning consortium that provides resources and trainings for CTE teachers and administrators. This non-profit organization, called the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Resource Network (CTAERN), takes advantage of the pooling of state resources to provide professional learning supports and resources at scale to all CTE educators.

The CTAERN was established in 2002, and focuses on offering professional development in the form of in-person workshops, webinars, full unit lesson plans and foundation skills activities to its members. Resources are directed at all 16 Career Clusters® and apply to teachers in urban, suburban and rural areas.

Policy in Action

The CTAERN has over 10,000 registered users, representing teaching positions in all of the Career Clusters. In the 2018-2019 school year, there were 290 workshops held for over 8,500 total attendees. Teachers at the middle and high school levels in every district are invited to use the network, as long as their districts have chosen to be members and pay dues through a set aside from their Perkins allotment. Over the past ten years, all districts in Georgia have elected to join and make this network available to their teachers.
