New Skills ready network 2021-2022 Snapshot: Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee, is one of the six sites selected to participate in the New Skills ready network. This five-year initiative, launched by JPMorgan Chase & Co. in 2020, aims to improve student completion of high-quality career pathways. In the second year of the initiative, the Nashville, Tennessee, New Skills ready network team conducted systemness training for city staff to develop a common language and process for addressing equity gaps in career pathways. Additionally, work focused on improving learner experiences in pathways through quadrupling the number of paid internships and piloting dedicated college and career coaches in four high schools.

This snapshot provides a summary of the three major priorities of Nashville, Tennessee’s New Skills ready network team:

  1. Establishing a shared understanding of key strategies to address systemic barriers to equity;
  2. Developing a career pathways college and career advising system with a College Career Coach framework; and
  3. Increasing work-based learning opportunities for learners in career pathways.
